  10. BirthdayChecker is a small and ultra fast program which scans a TEXT-file and searches for birthdays which will be interesting in the next few days. If you put an alias in the startup-folder, your mac will check the birthdays every day for you!

  29. - How does it work?

BC searches for a TEXT-file in the same folder than itself named "BirthdayChecker.data". If no date is found during scan it quits itself and nothing will happen. If one or more dates are found, they will be shown in a nice window which can moved around the screen and left open in the background till you have reacted.  Every keypress or a click in the close box of the window will close it. 
  32. The scan of the data needs only a part of a second (on my machine with my 100 dates!). For testing I have tried it out with a seven hundred of dates and there was no noticeable difference to the 1 hundred before!
  33. It's fast and easy!

The number of days to warn before is adjustable. In the same way you can choose, if you want to use the German-date-format (DD.MM) or the American-format (MM.DD). Also you can use the German-format with english titles named Euro-format! The header displayed in the birthday window and the width of the window is adjustable, too. You can have several copies of BirthdayChecker in different folders. So you can't only check the birthdays, you can also check for every important date.

If you like BirthdayChecker send me 6$ or 10 Deutsche Mark and you'll get a registration Code. Please send me only money because checks will bring more costs than profit! If you have no account which can be reached by the internet, please add an envelope with your name and german stamps or add 2$ for postage. The international voucher for stamps is not well accepted in Germany!

  45. - Parameters

  47. BirthdayChecker is adjustable in many ways. Adapt it for your own needs and wishes! To open the Preferences-Dialog, please hold down the Apple-key (or command-key) during the start of BirthdayChecker.

  71. The following parameters could be adjusted:
  72. - The number of days for warning-time (1-30).
  73. - The number of maximally warnings per day. Useful if you start your machine more than once per day.
  74. - The format of the date: There are 3 possibilities, American-, German- and European-format. 
  75.    The American format follows the following declaration: month.day.year. In the German- and European-format the month and day are exchanged:day.month.year. The difference is that the German-format will use the german language while the European-format will use the english language.
